Tapping Tuesdays

Tapping Circle Instructions

1.Choose your issue, give it a name and write it down in one to three words

2.Rate your degree of emotional distress or “charge” on a scale from 0 to 10,

0=not at all intense and 10 =maximum intensity*.

3.Identify where you feel the sensations associated with the emotional distress in your body.

4.Recall an event when you felt that feeling. If possible, pick an event that occurred during the earliest time in your life.

5.When the Tapping Tuesdays session starts, you can say or think about your issue. Keep tapping until we end the session.

6.When the session ends, usually in 40 minutes, think about your issue, tune into that same part of your body, and rate your degree of emotional distress a second time. Write down your new number. You may find your number dropping substantially.

If your number doesn't drop, pick another specific incident in your life most identified with that feeling in your body, and repeat the process.

Please know, too, that sometimes, a clearing or relief from the emotional trigger may not show up for a few days and when it does it can be a subtle but happy surprise.

*If you rated the emotional distress of your issue higher than six, choose a more generic term to name your issue. For instance, if just thinking about or saying, “The Car Crash” emotionally charges you at a 6 or above, change the name to something like “That Thing That Happened”. Your mind-body will know what you are referring to and you won’t need to feel so triggered!

Using Your Own Topic or The Chosen Topic

At the beginning of the session you will see the chosen session topic to the right of your screen.

You can tap on your own personal issue as outlined above and also check to see if you have any possible negative charges on the chosen topic issue.

To test your charge on the chosen topic, simply say something like “I feel completely positive about (chosen topic) and don’t have any negative issues about this”.

Say it out loud, no one can hear you!

Then notice if you feel any sensation in your body or have a negative thought or emotion. If your intensity is higher than a two, you may wish to work on the chosen topic.

Try to identify the negative emotions and beliefs on what you will be tapping on. Maybe one of the common beliefs listed below matches yours:

“I’ll never get over this”

“I can’t deal with this”

“This is too big to get over”

“I don’t deserve to be happy”

“I don’t have what it takes to get over this”

“I don’t think this tapping stuff will work”

“It’s too late to fix my problems”

“(A person you know) wouldn’t like it if I got rid of this problem”

“I don’t want to get rid of this problem”

“I don’t know who I am without this problem”

“Nothing good happens to me”

These are just some examples, listen to your inner voice.

The chat room is completely confidential.

Please type one of you negative beliefs about your personal or chosen topic in the chat window and it will be included in the circle.

These sessions are confidential, no one can see or hear you nor can they see what is typed in the chat window, except Shannon or Elaine.
